I mean, they say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.
This blog isn’t just a presentation of my work from here onwards, but also a way for me to keep up to date on myself. Self-referencing my own previous work is important to me and my process of development.
I don’t consider myself a good writer, so I’ll just summarise my story so far. I grew up in Portsmouth and completed a GNVQ distinction in Art and Design. I then moved to Cornwall after my GCSE’s, and attended a National Diploma in Art and Design at Cornwall College. I had my first illustration commission within my second year, within a children’s Spanish languages book.
I then attended a Foundation Degree in Graphic Communication and Design at Plymouth University. Within my second year there, I had my first graphic design commission for an American singer/songwriter, to which I am still designing for today. Through her reference, I gained commissions from a New York based film production company, and various other music artists she knew.
After I graduated I took a year out to relax, but be productive. I took on as many commissions as possible, including poster design for a nightclub I was working at, a foreign languages company, a hardcore events company, and voluntary work for Cornwall County Council within their architectural department.
In the summer of 2013, I surprised myself by establishing my own independent clothing brand, to which would showcase my custom designs on tshirts, hoodies, and other accessories. I never thought that I’d be delving into the world of fashion design, but I’m very glad I have made a promising start - I’ve made a few sales since making this.
I now reside in private student accommodation in the Aldgate area of London, attending a direct entry into the 2nd year of BA Graphic Design at London Metropolitan University.
